Drum roll, please: Original Rock Band bundle gets a price cut

Attention virtual rock and rollers, Harmonix has sent word that the original Rock Band bundle (as in not Rock Band 2) has received a price cut just in time for the holidays. The Xbox 360 version of the bundle has seen a $30 price cut, knocking the official price down to $140. Sure, you might not get the fancy self-calibrating guitar, or the new drums, but it's a significant savings over the $190 Rock Band 2 bundle. It's worth noting that Amazon actually has the bundle for $120, which means you could grab the Rock Band 1 bundle and a copy of Rock Band 2 for less than the cost of the Rock Band 2 bundle. That's definitely our suggestion if your goal this holiday is to be the coolest parent / grandparent / uncle / aunt / total stranger on the block.

Harmonix founders receive $300 million bonus

Poor economy be damned, corporate America doesn't stop rewarding its top employees. Especially when handing out bonus checks to their money makers.

MTV Games parent company Viacom just wrote a few checks, totaling $300 million in bonus cash to Harmonix founders Alex Rigopulos and Eran Egozy. Each Harmonix employee received $150 million in bonus money for exceeding performance targets with the Rock Band franchise. Maybe they could use that cash to lure Zeppelin over to Rock Band. It worked with The Beatles.

Fight the Foo with new Rock Band DLC

Foo Fighters fans should be feeling just fine today, as a boatload of new Rock Band DLC has landed on Xbox Live Marketplace. More specifically, fans can get their grubby little foo fighting mitts on the entire The Colour and the Shape album. The whole shebang will set you back 1600 MS Points, otherwise known as 20 earth dollars. If you like your DLC a bit more piecemeal, you can pick up any of the individual tracks listed below for 160 points ($2) each. Given that their are 12 songs total, the full album will save 320 points, or $4. Now go fight that foo!
  • "Doll"
  • "Monkey Wrench"
  • "Hey, Johnny Park!"
  • "My Poor Brain"
  • "Wind Up"
  • "Up in Arms"
  • "My Hero"
  • "See You"
  • "Enough Space"
  • "February Stars"
  • "Walking After You"

Rock Band Weekly: Presidents of the USA, Fall Out Boy, Hinder

While we already knew about the plans to release the thematic DLC for Rock Band 2, Harmonix added a pair of new tracks to this week's list. On November 4, also election day, gamers can downloaded three tracks from The Presidents of the United States of America for 160MS points each or 440MS points as a three-pack. Not your bag? Also, get those registration codes ready on Tuesday as well because the 20 free indie tracks will release on Tuesday, as well. Now, just make sure to set those downloads up and vote because remember, if you don't vote you aren't allowed to complain about the government for the next four years. It's a rule.

Europe to rock out with Rock Band 2 in Nov.

Just when our friends in Europe thought they were being left out (yet again) of the Rock Band 2 fun, EA just announced that the sequel to the original multi-instrument music platform will be releasing this November.

Rock Band 2 - the standalone game - will release to Europe on November 14th and a week later in the UK on November 21st. Its release will be a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360, just as it was in the U.S. If you're looking to grab a Rock Band 2 bundle then you'll have to wait a bit longer, because it'll be out "beginning in December." Wondering about pricing? Well, the standalone disc will retail for 49.99 GBP or 69.99 EUR and the December releasing bundle's price is still shrouded in mystery. Got it? Good!

Congrats Europe, you can haz Rock Band 2!

RB DLC: Siouxsie, Blink, Silversun and more

  • "Killing Jar" by Siouxsie & The Banshees

Lars Ulrich on why Metallica is Guitar Hero exclusive

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich recently told KBS Radio why the band decided to offer its music on Guitar Hero while denying it to Rock Band. Ulrich's somewhat cryptic reasoning: "We had to make a decision, and it was one or the other, and we felt that Guitar Hero were more suited for what we were looking for. They were ready to step up on a number of fronts and it's been great." Ulrich did not elaborate on how exactly Activision "stepped up," though he does mention the rumors of a Metallica themed Guitar Hero. Ulrich did not confirm such a game was in the works, instead saying "who knows what's gonna lurk next year, but it's pretty exciting."

So, Activision stepped up and Guitar Hero was more suited to what Metallica was looking for. Somehow we get the feeling that Activision stepped up with a suitcase full of money, which is exactly what Metallica was looking for.

Presidents of the U.S.A. to release Rock Band DLC on election day

Thanks to their involvement in the U.S. election, The Presidents of the United States of America will be releasing three musical tracks as Rock Band DLC on Tuesday, November 4th. Coincidentally, that's election day.

As part of the partnership between Xbox 360, Rock the Vote and The Presidents of the U.S.A., a three song RB track pack featuring "Dune Buggy", "Ladybug" and "Feather Pluckn" will be available for purchase off the XBLM for a yet to be announced price. Oh, in case you were wondering, 35% of Xbox Live voters consider "Job and the Economy" as the most important issue in this year's election. Word.
